National After-School All-Stars

ASAS Chicago

ASAS Chicago

In the 2010-2011 academic year, ASAS will serve approximately 250 Chicago Public Schools, reaching almost 40,000 students. By emphasizing the three pillars of Academics, Enrichment, and Health & Fitness, ASAS Chicago offers activities that equip students with the skills and experiences needed to become productive citizens of the 21st century. Each school designs its own program to best serve its students’ needs and interests, but typical classes include art, dance, drama, healthy cooking, intramural sports, and service learning projects. Students participate in at least 4 hours/ week of classes in addition to 4 hours of academic offerings through Supplemental Education Services (SES), and also receive a third meal or snack.

ELITES

Garvey, Hampton, Kellogg, McNair, Smyser, Stone, Walsh, and J. Ward.
